Cancernators

Every once in awhile Jer and I flex our all-mighty muscles and dedicate time to a good cause. This last Friday-Saturday we made the long journey to Tooele to combat one of the worst villains of all - cancer. Every year my family creates a super-cool team for the Tooele Relay for Life in order to raise all-important awareness and money for cancer research. This year's theme was "Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back."

Our super-cool team was enhanced by the addition of some new sidekicks to the ranks - the Jake-a-nator, Aaronizzle, and smooth-action Benster. With the help of Master J-Miah, these rookies really learned the ropes and put up a good fight against our evil villain. Our team also sported the super Mr. Joe Head, smiling Granny Pants, Stephen B-nizzle, and the ruthless and notorious Mama J and her Rocky Mountain Rebels.

Following a brief conflict over their new uniforms (the boys weren't so fond of the t-shirts), our team took to the track and began a 13 hour march to fight against cancer. The track was rough, and the team had the unmistakable feeling that their course was leading them in circles. Still, the super-cool team knew that they were making a statement - a cure must be found.

They went through many adventures, including the joy of the survivor lap, the sorrow of the luminary ceremony, the ultimate exhaustion of walking at 4:00 a.m., and, finally, the hope that came with dawn. The super-cool team toughed it through the night, raising money and awareness for cancer research.

When all was said and done, the team was tired, there were a few blisters and sore feet, but they had made it. The amazing team concluded their quest in just enough time for the dynamic duo - Kasie and Jer- to return to their civilian lives and attend a wedding ceremony and reception. They even worked in the kitchen and served drinks that night! What can I say? It may have been a very long weekend, but with Kasamiah (Jer's favorite mix of our names) anything is possible!

Fun, Free, and Fan-freakin-tastic!

This is what happens when Kasie is bored and then suddenly remembers that she has a camera . . .

The End of School . . .Until Fall :(

It's official . . . my summer semester is over! After months of continual sleep deprivation, dragging myself to class, and biting my tongue during all of my oh-so-intelligent peers' remarks, my self-inflicted academic torture is over and I am free . . . until it starts again in August! Still, this education hiatus will provide me with a much needed reality check - step aside academia and welcome mind-numbing pop culture! I plan on letting the sweet drone of the t.v. dull my senses into a summer of relaxation! Well, at least when I am not working or helping Kamie with her wedding.

In all actuality, I really enjoy school. I am good at being a student and wish that I could keep doing it forever. I mean, what if I stink at everything else? Maybe someone should pay me to take classes my entire life! School is cool!

Cyncial Addictions

It seems like Jer and I (mostly me) go through major t.v. obsessions. For awhile there it was always CSI (Las Vegas) - we watched reruns on t.v. and would rent the seasons to watch. Lately our t.v. addiction has been for the cynical and self-destructive House. I mean, not only is he completely hilarious and a brilliant satirist, but the show also includes people dying from unheard of and totally gross diseases! What more could a girl want? We have officially finished season one and have moved on to season two now. Yes, we have already seen some of the episodes, but who can get enough of House's completely inappropriate humor?

I wonder what it says about me that my two favorite t.v. shows have to do with people either dead or dying . . .

Make Your Own Digital Story!

So, I don't know if I am just behind the times or what, but I am totally stoked about this digital story maker software that I learned to use in my summer Instructional Media course. It's called Photo Story 3 and is a FREE download. With it you can upload and edit your pictures, add text to the pictures, customize zoom, transition, and motion, narrate or sing over your pictures, and add background music. It is super easy to use and way fun. The movie I made for my class is a serious documentary, but I think this program would be great for Mother's Day gifts or something - especially for all of you with kids out there.

Just in case you are curious, here is the video that I made for my Instructional Media class.

I chose to do mine on the Hazara Genocide that happened under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. I really didn't know much about this subject, but after reading The Kite Runner I became way interested in it. Nowadays when people talk about Afghanistan it is always in context to the U.S. People don't realize all of the internal turmoil that has absolutely nothing to do with us. They have been having civil wars for centuries - centuries! Also, their average life span expectancy is 44. Can you imagine? We plan to live to our 80's, while they only get to their 40's! While disease does play a factor, war and the associated dangers are the main culprits. I don't expect this movie to do much good, but I think that the first step to solving any problem is awareness. We can't change something that we aren't aware of!

Anyway, I promise that not all of my posts will be political or enforce my agenda - but there probably will be a few random ones. Thanks for listening!

My Baby Sister is Getting Married!

As some of you know, my beautiful little sister is getting married in August to Alex Zamora! They have been dating for over two years are so excited to start their life together. Kamie has an amazing pink sapphire ring that is super unique and absolutely to die for. They will be getting married at Millennial Falls in Draper, Utah. Wedding plans are going really good, but it is coming down to the wire now!

Here is a picture of three of Kamie's four bridesmaids- and Kamie with her dark hair. I am so jealous that she looks absolutely amazing with both blond and brown hair! I mean, really? Who is lucky enough to look good both ways? The bridesmaids are all really excited and bridal shower plans are coming along - stay tuned for more info! L-R: Natalie, Kasie, Kamie, Mallory. (Not pictured is Jennifer Bailey)

Kamie's dress is to DIE for! I wish I could post a picture of it, but alas, it must stay a secret for while longer!

Welcome to Our Blog!

After spending countless hours searching and reading our friends' blogs, we decided it was about time to give our own a shot. I love reading about everything going on in our family and friends' lives and hope that you guys will enjoy getting some updates on ours, too. Yay for keeping in touch! I am a super bad friend when it comes to calling people, so maybe this will make up for my loathing of talking on the phone!

Anyway, things are pretty good for us right now. Jer is working all summer and I am taking some summer classes and working as an Intern to VP of Student Affairs. I am super excited because I will start my student teaching in January - finally!

Check back and we will add more pictures and stories as life progresses! It would be super fantastic if you would add our link to your blogs, too!
